From the City of Alameda

The East Bay Economic Development Alliance (East Bay EDA) is spotlighting some of the most significant contributors to the East Bay?s unique culture and legacy of innovation. East Bay EDA announced the 16 finalists for the first-ever East Bay Innovation Awards. Four of the 16 nominees are from the City of Alameda.

The companies are DOER, Penumbra, Inc., Perforce Software, and St. George Spirits.

?This is an honor for these great companies and is reflective of the fact that Alameda is a magnet for innovative businesses, ranging from technology to healthcare to robotics?to craft distilleries, who want to be in a city that is supportive of business and families,? said Mayor Marie Gilmore.

"We are pleased to be in Alameda. Our waterfront location in the heart of the Bay Area allows collaboration with a broad range of innovative employees, businesses, technologies, as well as our end users," said Liz Taylor, President, DOER. "It has been the perfect home for our subsea robotics and submersible business."

"This nomination is an honor for us at Penumbra. Our entire focus is to positively change the life outcomes of patients suffering from stroke and other diseases," said Adam Elsesser, CEO and Founder, Penumbra. "It means a lot to everyone at the company to be recognized for the major improvements we have made in products in treating this devastating disease.?? Being located in Alameda has been a key part of our success as we have been able to attract highly skilled workers from the entire East Bay and beyond to our headquarters."

"We are excited to be considered for this award and have loved our East Bay location," said Christopher Seiwald, President and Chief Technology Officer, Perforce Software. "Alameda has been a great headquarter location for our business."

"We at St. George Spirits are deeply honored to be considered for this award," said Lance Winters, owner/master distiller, St. George Spirits. "St. George started in the East Bay, and continues to thrive here because of the support and inspiration of our community. The City of Alameda has also been tremendously supportive in our efforts to establish a thriving beverage mecca here on the former Naval Air Station."

The 16 companies and organizations ? selected by independent industry professionals after a public nomination process coordinated and launched by the East Bay Economic Development Alliance ? are being recognized not only for being instrumental in advancing the region?s culture of innovation, but also for? contributing to regional prosperity.

The selected finalists will be recognized at a gala event on January 31, 2012 at the Fox Theater in Oakland. At the event, East Bay EDA will also announce their first-ever Innovation Award winners, which will be selected from the pool of finalists.
